Relationship between Drone Payload and Battery Capacity

Whether it’s a plant protection drone or an industrial drone, no matter the size or weight, to fly long and far you need its power engine – the drone battery to be strong enough. Generally speaking, drones with a long range and heavy payload will have larger drone batteries in terms of voltage and capacity, and vice versa.

Below, we will introduce the relationship between the mainstream agricultural plant protection drone load and drone battery selection in the current market.

1

In the early stage, the capacity of most models is mainly 10L, and then gradually develops to 16L, 20L, 30L, 40L, within a certain range, the increase of load is conducive to improve the operational efficiency and effect, so in recent years, the carrying capacity of agricultural drones has been gradually increasing.

However, different regions and different applications have different requirements for the load capacity of models: in terms of application scope, fruit tree plant protection, sowing operations require greater load capacity to ensure efficiency and effect; in terms of regional scope, scattered plots are more suitable for the use of small and medium-sized models, while regular large plots are more suitable for large load capacity models.

Early load capacity of 10L plant protection drone, most of the batteries used are like this: specification voltage 22.2V, capacity size in 8000-12000mAh, discharge current in 10C or so, so it is basically enough.

Later on, due to the advancement of drone technology, the payload has been increasing, and the drone batteries have also become larger in terms of voltage, capacity and discharge current.

-Most of the 16L and 20L drones use batteries with the following parameters: capacity 12000-14000mAh, voltage 22.2V, some models can use higher voltage (44.4V), discharge 10-15C; 30L and 40L drones use batteries with the following parameters: capacity 12,000-14,000mAh, voltage 22.2V, some models can use higher voltage (44.4V), discharge 10-15C.

-30L and 40L drones use most of the battery parameters are: capacity 16000-22000mAh, voltage 44.4V, some models can use higher voltage (51.8V), discharge 15-25C.

In 2022-2023, the load capacity of mainstream models has grown to 40L-50L, and the broadcasting capacity has reached 50KG. it is predicted that in recent years, the load capacity of models will not continue to rise significantly. Because with the rise of the load, has produced the following disadvantages:

1. Difficult to carry, transportation and transfer more troublesome

2. The wind field is too strong during the operation, and the plants are easy to fall down.

3. charging power is larger, some have even exceeded 7KW, single-phase power has been difficult to meet, more demanding on the power grid.

Therefore, it is expected that in 3-5 years, agricultural drones will also be 20- 50 kilograms of models mainly, each region according to their own needs to choose.
