Israeli Company Develops Drone Simulator

An Israeli company working on an artificial intelligence system to teach people how to operate drones has accelerated development of its platform and is now using it to help train Israeli soldiers and civilians to use drones in wartime.

Anytime and Anywhere

Since the FlyZone platform is software-based, only a basic VR headset and standard remote control is needed to train future operators. In addition, it can be used with a range of drones in any location, including staging areas where the Israeli army prepares for battle.

“You don’t need to go anywhere, wherever you are, to [train].” Cohen said, “All you need is a pair of glasses and a very simple remote control, both of which you can purchase relatively easily in a matter of minutes.”

Cohen said the integration of artificial intelligence into the platform is what makes FlyZone unique. While other drone simulators have fixed, generic training difficulty levels, the use of AI allows the FlyZone platform to reconstruct multiple environments in order to practice operating a drone in the face of a variety of challenges.

The AI algorithms also allow the platform to collect data on trainee performance, identifying areas of drone operation that need more practice, enabling them to improve their skills with greater focus and speed.

It’s not just soldiers who are currently benefiting from the platform; these community drone operator interns are not only military, but people in their 50s, 60s and even 70s.
